Gill Bustamante collection
I am a professional, self representing, artist based in Sussex and I paint large original oil paintings of landscapes and seascapes that are inspired by places and things I have seen. I especially like to paint English landscapes of trees and forests, wildflowers, deer, sea and sky and how these change with the seasons.
My favourite artist is Gustav Klimt and my painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, a little Art Nouveau and whatever mood I am in that day.
I did an art degree in sculpture at Brighton which I completed in 1983 but am self-taught as a painter. I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques.
My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere and have decided to try and capture a little of the essence of that place. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke.
I like to think that paintings have 'little souls' woven into them by artist's and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability.
My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
